Shipping Guides have been highly commended for a major publishing industry award for work they undertook in bringing FindaportCD to market in January 2012. 

Along with their development partners, Silicon Valley-based Cogniance, Shipping Guides were nominated, and highly commended, for the IT Development Team of the Year Award at the prestigious Professional Publishers Association (PPA) Digital Publishing Awards in the City of London.

Technology Director, Feargal Hogan, was effusive in his praise for the team work required in getting the product to market in such a short time. "When the board made the decision in July 2011 to replace The Guide on CD, we really had only a broad outline of how the product might work. However, appointing Cogniance as the lead developers was the best decision we ever made", said Mr. Hogan. "Their agile methodologies and professionalism allowed us to agree a functional design within weeks, and prototype within 2 months. After that it was just a matter of tying it all together."

Cogniance CEO Michael Shraybman was equally enthusiastic in his praise for the team. "Our Kyev-based developers were delighted to partner with the Shipping Guides team. They worked very well together. When Feargal came to us with a project outline, our technical architects were able to investigate each technology and evaluate suitable implementations. I think Shipping Guides were very happy with the solution we eventually proposed. And they were very accommodating in making the necessary changes to their FindaportAPI service to allow the system to work more easily", said Shraybman.

The system works by taking a snapshot of Shipping Guides Findaport.com data using the FindaportAPI and delivering it encrypted on a DVD platform for installation on shipboard PCs.
